Christmas Eve Services

10:00 A.M.  --  Pastor Dave offers his sermon, “SKIN IN THE GAME”, based on Ezekiel 37:1-6 and Luke 1:46-55.  Wait…Ezekiel?? Why are we reading Ezekiel at Christmas??   Well, for one thing, at the 10:00 a.m. worship service this Sunday, it isn’t Christmas yet. It is still Advent — the time of anticipation and preparation leading up to Christmas. For another thing, Ezekiel, not unlike Mary, had a vision of a time when God would use them to bring new life into the world. Could the same be true for us today?

4:30 P.M. – We are getting closer!!  This will be a family-friendly worship time with more music and candlelighting.  In Isaiah 9:2-7we are reminded of the promises that God makes to the Israelites who had been in exile.  Promises that the lives of the people will be forever changed.  The ultimate promise that a Messiah will be born into the world to make those same promises true for generations to come.  Pastor Danita will take a look at some of those promises with the assurance that “GOD WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN!”

10:30 P.M. – Almost there!!  Our time of worship will include more fantastic music, candlelighting and a time of remembrance around the table of communion.  The table and our time of worship serve as reminders to us of the task we have as believers…..share the Good News of the birth of Christ!!  We will hear the words from Titus 2:11-14 that call us to “DO THE RIGHT THING” and be the change we want to see in the world as a result of this night’s events.  Pastor Danita will help us to see that we all have a unique and very important part to play.

Join us at any of our worship gatherings on Christmas Eve!  All are welcome!

Snow Shoveler Needed

The Trustees are looking for someone to shovel the sidewalks around the church when it snows on evenings (by 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. depending on meetings that are being held each evening).  We pay $25 for each instance of shoveling - and we have a snow blower available to use! The parking lot is not a part of this assignment.

Summer Associates Needed

Camps Reynoldswood & Wesley Woods need Christian Summer Associates to fill the following paid positions: Counselors, Lifeguards, Aquatics Directors, Shift Cooks, Kitchen Assistants,  and Maintenance Helpers. We need committed Christians to share their faith, encourage youth and staff, and build friendships. These are Summer JOBS, not vacations--candidates  will be expected to work all summer long, including holidays--June 1 through August 16.  Apply online.

The Mitten Tree is Back!

Bring in child size mittens, gloves, hats and scarves to decorate our tree. All donations will go to Woodridge School District 68 for the needs of local students. We will make a delivery in early December and then again after Christmas break.

Justice For Our Neighbors (JFON)
Dear Woodridge United Methodist Church,
Your gift has already made an impact…our lawyer and paralegal have been working almost non-stop to provide free legal counsel to immigrants.  Our Country’s immigration system is not simple and now it is an ever changing environment. Your generosity helps us focus on providing the excellent, free legal counsel to vulnerable immigrants n the communities we serve.

Thanks you for your generous gift of $1123 to Northern Illinois JFON on November 7, 2017.

As the Chair of Development, I would like to personally than you for making our work possible.  Your kindness supported our attorney in meeting with immigrants eager to be in the United States with the appropriate documents.
Our current and future success of providing excellent and free legal advice to immigrants I made possible by the continued generosity of our supporters.
With deep gratitude,
Melissa Earley

From Love Christian Clearinghouse
Dear Woodridge United Methodist Church,
May you be blessed with a beautiful Christmas season and a wonder-filled New Year!

From West Suburban Community Pantry
Thank you for your donation that we received on 12/4/2017! [from the Ecumenical service offering] Because of you, we can provide food and services to people in need in our community who struggle to make ends meet.

You help the single mother who finally left an abusive relationship and needs to start over; the construction workers who have their hours cut as a project ends. Because of you, our neighbors in need can put their precious resources towards other things, such as childcare, keeping the heat on and putting gas in their car to get to work.

It’s because of generous supporters like you that our clients do not need to worry about whether or not they’ll have dinner tonight.

Thank you. Many organizations are asking for your support at this time of year, and we are humbled hat you chose to invest your dollars in WSCP. We could not provide access to healthy food, deliver grocery boxes to senior citizens, or offer any other services essential to families living in poverty without your generous contributions.
Warmest regards,
Laura Traut-Coyle
Executive Director

Our Outreach Committee is pleased to announce that our Prison Clothing Ministry is GROWING AND EXPANDING.  We are now able to partner with other participating area churches in the Suits for Success Program.  This non-profit, volunteer organization which was founded by Bill Denwood of Community Methodist Church in Naperville provides, at no charge, gently used clothes to parolees throughout the State of Illinois that are suitable for interviews with prospective employers.   Prior to this time, WUMC’s donations served only the Logan Correctional Facility in Lincoln, Illinois.

The Suits for Success Program also partners with area dry-cleaners which serve as drop-off points and clean and press the clothes for free.  The participating dry cleaner closest to us is Signature Cleaners, Steve Hirmer, Owner, on Werhli in Naperville.  You may drop off your donations directly with Steve or bring them to WUMC and place in the boxes in the hallway which leads from the Narthex to Fellowship Hall.  THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR DONATIONS!!!!

Are you scratching your head, saying “WHAT BASKET?”  It’s the one that sits on the floor on the left side of the middle entrance to our Sanctuary.  PLEASE LOOK FOR IT, AND DON’T FORGET TO BRING A DONATION TO CHURCH TO FILL THE BASKET FOR THE WEST SUBURBAN FOOD PANTRY (WOODRIDGE FOOD PANTRY)!

Woodridge United Methodist Church (WUMC), our Church, partners with the West Suburban Food Pantry in providing food for the economically disadvantaged of our community.
