"Come and See"

Who doesn’t like to receive an invitation to something exciting?  We all do!!!  And we don’t hesitate to invite others when we experience something that is exciting.  Think about the last event you attended that was exciting?  You didn’t hesitate to tell someone else about it.  According to our scripture for this week, John 1:43-51 we see where Philip went and got Nathaniel and invited him to “COME AND SEE”.

Is there something exciting in your life that you want to invite others to experience?  Is your experience living a life of faith exciting enough for you to invite someone else?  When is the last time you even invited someone to church?  Let’s see if we can’t change some of that on Sunday!!  Join us at 9 or 10:30.  ALL are welcome.

Woodridge UMC is an open and loving United Methodist community striving to:

Welcoming to all;
Uniting in service toward greater social justice for all;
Moving forward with understanding and acceptance of all peoples;
Creating disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Our purpose is to offer a safe place and community to all races, cultures, religions, genders, sexual identities, ethnicities, age groups and other beliefs.

Bible Study

 Our next bible study  is HALF TRUTHS by Adam Hamilton and is offered on Wednesday evenings (6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.) and Tuesday mornings (10:30 a.m. to noon). The plan for Wednesday remains to join the youth for dinner at about 6:30 p.m. and then as they go off to their activities, we will go to our class. We will conclude at 8:30 p.m., about the same time as the youth finish.

True or false:
1. Everything happens for a reason.
2. God helps those who help themselves.
3. God won’t give you more than you can handle.
4. God said it, I believe it, that settles it.
5. Love the sinner, hate the sin.
All true? Not so fast. We’ve heard these phrases all of our lives, but in Adam Hamilton’s new book, Half Truths, you’ll learn that although they capture some element of truth, when compared to the wisdom found in Scripture, they’re really just popular sayings.

The WEDNESDAY class began on Wednesday, January 10th. The TUESDAY class will begin on Tuesday, January 16th. The cost is $15.00 per person for the study guide. Please plan to join us!! Sign-up sheet is in the narthex.

the United Methodist church called “See All The People.”  We also have five breakout sessions, all designed to help local churches to better understand how to reach out to neighbors and bring the way of Jesus to them.  Breakout session will be lead by laity and pastors who have put into action what they will talk about.  All church members are welcome to attend!

Our Outreach Committee is pleased to announce that our Prison Clothing Ministry is GROWING AND EXPANDING.  We are now able to partner with other participating area churches in the Suits for Success Program.  This non-profit, volunteer organization which was founded by Bill Denwood of Community Methodist Church in Naperville provides, at no charge, gently used clothes to parolees throughout the State of Illinois that are suitable for interviews with prospective employers.   Prior to this time, WUMC’s donations served only the Logan Correctional Facility in Lincoln, Illinois.

The Suits for Success Program also partners with area dry-cleaners which serve as drop-off points and clean and press the clothes for free.  The participating dry cleaner closest to us is Signature Cleaners, Steve Hirmer, Owner, on Werhli in Naperville.  You may drop off your donations directly with Steve or bring them to WUMC and place in the boxes in the hallway which leads from the Narthex to Fellowship Hall.  THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR DONATIONS!!!!

 Are you scratching your head, saying “WHAT BASKET?”  It’s the one that sits on the floor on the left side of the middle entrance to our Sanctuary.  PLEASE LOOK FOR IT, AND DON’T FORGET TO BRING A DONATION TO CHURCH TO FILL THE BASKET FOR THE WEST SUBURBAN FOOD PANTRY (WOODRIDGE FOOD PANTRY)!

Woodridge United Methodist Church (WUMC), our Church, partners with the West Suburban Food Pantry in providing food for the economically disadvantaged of our community.
