"It's About Gratitude Not Attitude"

This Sunday before Thanksgiving our scripture passages remind us of the graciousness of our God and the encouragement for us to respond in faith.  Not to respond with “information in our head” but to respond with “action from our hearts”.  God provides for us daily in many more ways that we can imagine and the reminder is for us to do something with what God has given us… a blessing to others.  And we must be careful that we are not giving to others “for show”.  It’s the giving from the heart that God wants.  Once we reflect on God’s gifts to us and internalize that love and care, it is so much easier to give and give willingly.

Each of us is invited to think about our giving as we approach this season of giving and sharing.  Is our giving simply out of obligation or is it because our lives have truly been changed.  When we have internalized what we have received from God, recognizing God’s plan and purpose for our lives, and the various ways God leads us to make a difference in the world, our giving becomes more out of gratitude.

Let’s explore that a little more on Sunday.  Join us at 9 or 10:30 a.m..  ALL are welcome.

 Woodridge UMC is an open and loving United Methodist community striving to:

Welcoming to all;
Uniting in service toward greater social justice for all;
Moving forward with understanding and acceptance of all peoples;
Creating disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Our purpose is to offer a safe place and community to all races, cultures, religions, genders, sexual identities, ethnicities, age groups and other beliefs.

 Our Outreach Committee is pleased to announce that our Prison Clothing Ministry is GROWING AND EXPANDING.  We are now able to partner with other participating area churches in the Suits for Success Program.  This non-profit, volunteer organization which was founded by Bill Denwood of Community Methodist Church in Naperville provides, at no charge, gently used clothes to parolees throughout the State of Illinois that are suitable for interviews with prospective employers.   Prior to this time, WUMC’s donations served only the Logan Correctional Facility in Lincoln, Illinois.

 The Suits for Success Program also partners with area dry-cleaners which serve as drop-off points and clean and press the clothes for free.  The participating dry cleaner closest to us is Signature Cleaners, Steve Hirmer, Owner, on Werhli in Naperville.  You may drop off your donations directly with Steve or bring them to WUMC and place in the boxes in the hallway which leads from the Narthex to Fellowship Hall.  THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR DONATIONS!!!!
